A series of major earthquakes have hit the Indonesian island of Lombok, with tremors being felt on the neighboring island of Bali. The most recent 6.9 magnitude quake has caused 98 fatalities in Lombok, with over 200 injured and 20,000 displaced. The Indonesian government has enacted well planned and rehearsed emergency drills to evacuate people that have been affected by the events, including all tourists from the Gili Islands. Both Lombok and Bali airport are functioning as normal, with the former having an increased flight schedule to facilitate evacuations.
We hope and pray that all those affected by the earthquake are safe and that its effects do not produce too much devastation.
