National Geographic Magazine has kicked off their “Summer of Sharks”. The June 2016 issue features an article about diving wth tiger sharks (Galeocerdo cuvier) at Tiger Beach. Forthcoming issue over the summer will feature great white sharks (Carcharodon carcharias) and oceanic whitetips (Carcharhinus longimanus).
National Geographic writes: “We’ll meet scientists who are shedding new light on these enigmatic creatures that are vital to the seas, and not as scary as you might think”. The articles are illustrated with imagery from Brian Skerry.
Skerry will be describing his work to change people’s perceptions of sharks in a program to be broadcast on Nat Geo Wild channel. Mission Critical: Sharks under Attack will go to air on 22 May at 9p.m. ET.
