On the first of this month, the body of an Irrawaddy dolphin was discovered by villagers in Cambodia. Now, only 5 living dolphin remain of the critically endangered species.
Irrawaddy dolphin live in the Mekong river and have faced near extinction due to the use of glilnets by fishermen in the area. Although Laos instituted a 110-mile protection zone for the dolphins in 2012, it has not been properly enforced.
