#400778 Has anyone used both Retra Strobe + Retra LSD?

Posted by bear35 on 12 November 2018 - 10:42 PM

I have just seen a review by Alex Mustard for the new Retra strobe and it looks very impressive. Two models with one having a significantly stronger focus light and higher output... if your budget can stretch to it! The Retra web site has limited information about it on their website now.

#378817 Advice on strobes - newcomer to underwater photography

Some good advice above...

I can only really advise that if you are looking at one strobe then buy a good one, Inon or Sea & Sea would be my choice. But one thing I will say is if you are looking to take pictures as you describe above, two will always be better.

I had a similar problem and ended up solving it by putting a thin piece of card at the end of the battery. When you shut the door to the battery housing it then pushes the battery on to the contacts a little more. Worked for me ever since with no more problems.

If I remember rightly the instructions of the sea and sea strobes at least the YS D1 have a guide of setting it up the correct way by pointing it at the camera and taking a picture..... If you see the flash it the picture it will be firing at the right time.

#350747 Olympus 12-40 F/2.8 and the Zen Underwater DP 170 n85 port

Posted by bear35 on 24 July 2014 - 03:25 AM

If you already have the 12-40 I would buy the 60mm and port as it is better for macro and also far cheaper than port and gear for the 12-50.

email underwater visions and they will let you have the part number.

I am planning  a trip to the Philippines next year and having not been there before wanted some opinions from people on where to go.

I would like a mixture of macro (I have read Anilao is good) and perhaps Coron Bay (if it is worth a visit for some wrecks) and Malapascua for the Thresher sharks.

Is it realistic to do all of this in 14 days? If so how long would I need in Coron Bay and Malapascua?

Or anyone got any other ideas?

Thanks for reading.

Best Wishes
