#396964 Oly TG-5 Package Recommendations

Posted by trimix125 on 02 July 2018 - 12:50 PM

Hi,
what is his favorit in taking pics? Or video?
For macro or Video, one or better two Video lights are great. If it is wide angle, better two strobes...
Have been using the mk1 in an Nauticam housing, get the 12 - 50mm in the 6omm macro port with a zoom gear, later the 60mm macro lens, and then either a fisheye, or one of the good wide angles. Or the other way, if you like wide angle more ;-))

Regards,
Wolfgang

Bought that here in the Forum some time ago for my old Hugyfot, but never installed it.
The new Hugyfot has one on board...
Will add pics tomorrow.

#396763 Oly OM system starting from scratch

Posted by trimix125 on 25 June 2018 - 11:20 AM

Hi,
have been using the OMD5 mkI and found the 12-50mm fine, and you can use the same port for the 60mm macro, great lens...
I was using the macro port and a third party printed zoom gear.
Add a +10 Subsee or other good lens, for the 60mm and you get supermacro.
For wide i was using the 8mm Panasonic, the Oly was not on the market....
If wide and low light, the 12mm Oly is fine.
Only changed sfor low light reasons.

Wolfgang

#396125 Scratched glass

Posted by trimix125 on 06 June 2018 - 10:15 PM

Hi,
this looks like a coated lens, so no polishing! Otherwise you get a "cloudy" surface....
You can only try to find the same lens with a scratched front lens, and then change the element.
Have done that with a Inon UFL-165AD with the rear element.

Wolfgang

#395858 Think Tank Airport Commuter Alternatives

Posted by trimix125 on 30 May 2018 - 12:52 PM

Hi,
using a Think tank since years, i had changed to a no name product 2 years ago, since i have changed to a dslr rig...
500 gramm reduced...
After 2 trips, the zippers dont work anymore....
So i bought a second Think tank, because my girl friend is using mine..
Ist a pitty, she takes pics under water as well...

What i do, is thinking about my goal for the trip, means i take a setup for what i like to do most, including housing, port, camera and lens, and one light source in the backpack. Plus laptop and accu, loader and all that is needed to shoot the main goal of the trip.

Second strobe, and its arm and clamps, second port and lens, will travel in the normal divebag.

Simply because i can rent any gear anywhere if my bag is not coming. But not camera or strobes. So i can shot my mean goal up to 50% with my carry on, even if the other parts will arrive days later.

Have been in Aniloa, met a guy there who spent three days there. And his baggage came on the third day....
Think on going a liveaboard, but your gear is somewhere...

On the other hand, weighting luggage is rising a lot.....
So better having the most needed with me, and all the other stff coming hopefully...

Regards,
Wolfgang

#395383 Photographing cuttlefish eggs

Posted by trimix125 on 14 May 2018 - 09:53 AM

Humans are really stupid animals....
We should enjoy what we get to see, and we have the luxury to fix these moments for others.

Beeing an instructor, it was allways a have to do for me, to show people a bit about the underwater world, and to tell them how lucky we are, simply to have a chance watching this real.

I have seen divers / photographers watching a scene, and while swimming away kicking the animal from ist original place....
Divers, taking a pic of a pygmy in a fan, and kicking the next fan with their fins, so if there was a pygmy, it would have thought this will be the end of the world...

For the "best shot" putting animals to places they would never go... And riscing the live of that poor thing...

It looks on land, like there is only me, than me and than, after a long break maybe something else...
Under water without witness, it can be even worse...

So ist our job to save of the underwaterworld as much as possible.
To tell people what stupid things they were doing, even when this means to get unfriendly answers.

Who else than a photographer archieves things there???
If you visit some places for years, you see the changes. And we can document it, and tell the people why...

Sorry for the Long message,
but i think ist time to give the "blue" part of the planet a bit back of what we take....

Regards,
Wolfgang

#394249 Anyone using Sea&Sea Buoyancy Handle (Plastic)

Posted by trimix125 on 09 April 2018 - 12:26 PM

Hi,
i simply use a double sided piston clip, like you get it with a finger spool / reel, to clip my two strobe arms together. Simply clip it into both fixing screws, thats it. I like the stainless version, because thats easy to see for the boat crew.
And second use is to fix the neopren port cap, for the fisheyedome, so i can take off the protection after jumping / handling in, and attach it before the rig goes out of the water without loosing it. And at least you can use it to fix / clip the rig to your jacket if needed.
Ceap and helpfull.

Wolfgang

#393695 D500 vs D850?

Posted by trimix125 on 22 March 2018 - 10:51 PM

Hi Divegypsy,

agree with you the DOF in wide angle.
But is it the same in macro and supermacro?
And this is what Vigfus wants.
Can you shoot a pic in FX and in DX mode and show us a croop of some fine structure?
No question that a FX system is fine. And i use FX macro lenses to get just the center, there they are best.
The question is only if it is needed...

Wolfgang

#393496 D500 vs D850?

Posted by trimix125 on 18 March 2018 - 12:03 PM

Hi,
had the D300 and then a Oly OMD5 and now the D500.
For mostly macro, i would take it. Specially for supermacro, simply because of the DOF against any FX.
If you add some plus lenses or even combinate them, your field of raser sharpness will get so small....

If you pm me an email adress, i can send you pics, and you try what you can get out of them.

There will be allways a better, newer camera,
but the question is do we need it???
Or is sometimes the "old"one better for our Goal?

Regards,
Wolfgang

PS: can add you a pic from last weekend in front of a mountain hut.
5 am, lots of stars, a little bit of moon and 15 sec....

#393295 The DSLR / Compact Dilema

Posted by trimix125 on 13 March 2018 - 11:25 PM

Hi,
then you should micro four thirds or a mirrorless system give a chance ;-))
A Sony A6300 is small, and you can choose between a "standard" zoom or take a prime lens.
Same with a Olympus omd.....

To many possibilities.....

Wolfgang

#392815 which of 3 strobes for cave diving, imaging for science

Posted by trimix125 on 28 February 2018 - 06:41 AM

Hi,
what size will the square have, you want to lighten?
In a cave you normally never have enought light ;-))

I would think of a diffusor, and instead of S2000 of a pair of D2000.
Gives you more power and more uniform lightning.
And you can easily operate them manuall, have an external sensor.....

Regards,
Wolfgang
