#343122 Question on BBC Request

Posted by Marjo on 10 February 2014 - 06:43 AM

It is totally OK to get back to them, state your interest, but come with a counter offer on the price. Seriously, $80 is not OK, and adding two zeros to that number won't break their bank. You have unique footage that is valuable to them. If it wasn't, they would never have asked you in the first place. BBC is not s small mom-pop shop and ths is not a non-profit do-good cause. Be proud of what you have, nurture the relationship but dont sell yourself short.

#343121 Shooting permits: Why it's important to have them.

Posted by Marjo on 10 February 2014 - 06:34 AM

Same goes for photographing in the US. For example, photographing seaturtles, such such leatherbacks, greens and hawksbills, require permits, and they are very hard to get. I see people photograph them all the time, as were Ilive is prime nesting for those 3 species. However, it is not legal to photograph them without permit and I have seen one "very big name" production shut down due to them showing up to photograph permits thinking it will not be a problem, they will just get a permit on the fly based on who they are and what they do.

#339601 wetpixel, a breath of fresh air

Wetpixel is indeed special, a gem of the internet. I do think the exceptionall good atmosphere can largely be attributed to the site being well run, well moderated, and especially to the fact that the best of the best in the world of underwater photography have been involved since the early days of this this forum. These experts have been, and continue to be, exceptionally sharing and generous with their time and knowledge. The collected wealth of knowledge in this forum is incredible, and I consider wetpixel the most comprehensive source of information on underwater photography in the world. I joined wetpixel in 2004 and pretty much everything inknow about uw photography I either learned he or from someone very active on wetpixel.

I love the original post, how refreshing! My mind might be a little too narrow to believe in those other worlds, but the images created in my mind while reading the post are beautiful and inspirational. Thanks SoulDiver!

#36672 packing and transporting my rig

Tshepherd: Funny you should write that, because the idea with the insulating foam came to me while I was in "foam hell" trying to pick and pluck... I was thinking, why the heck can't I just SQUIRT this stuff in... and then the next day a engineer cooworker of mine mentioned the "great stuff" brand...

Also, here's another $ saver: Closed cell foam is a bit expensive, at least here on the islands. K-mart sells flat floating "noodles" in the toy department. About 1/2 thick and 8 inches wide, 6 feet long, very easy to cut. Great for turning regular backpack into laptop/photogear bag or for other padding jobs.
