Canon Rebel XSi
Looks like Canon has released information for their XTi successor, the XSi.
12.2 megapixel and live view for starters.

Ooh, pretty! How long after a camera is relased is there normally housings available for them?

Amigos,

This camera with all the improvements (almost a Baby 40D) will be a hit.......The viewfinder improvement, 14 Bit A/D, DIGIC III, Faster AF, and more including Live View (whether you choose to use it or not) will bring many dSLR shooters into the fold.

Or I could be full of it :)

nice there goes the pixel creep... ;)14bit and bigger viewfinder is nice... :)

Interesting, no more CF; they've switched to SD memory cards...

Do people actually buy the silver model?

I feel like I've joined the Camera of the Month Club. I bought a 350D to learn digital, before I could get it in the water the 40D is announced so I bought one and while I'm waiting for a housing for it a minature version is announced. :) If I'm lucky I'll get the new setup in the water in March before it's obsolete in April. What's the appropriate Smiley face for #$%&#%*? OK enough bitching, I feel better.

luckily there is no function on the older models to auto destruct once a new camera is out. Maybe dont mention this in case it gives the brands an idea.....

I like the 14 bit, dont like the switch to SD card .....

as for the silver version: I never would....

It has spot metering too. That would be one of the biggest improvements for me, had I still been in the Canon camp. :)

Looks nice, though, and will definitely be a big hit.

Pak, you of all, should know that silver goes along with pink much better than black :P :guiness: :)

Am I the ONLY shooter here who will buy SILVER if it saves me $10.00? LOL......

Not really, I opt for BLACK with every camera body.

Oh, the fashionistas we are :)

LOL Diving is so fashionable with the mucous and what not :P It is kind of funny when I see people all color coordinated with the fins and the rest. Don't know how they do it.

But black cameras do go with everything, don't they?

So, will the 40D have a successor now to add some differentiation between it and the new DSLR just announced?

Probably not soon since the 40D is so new. The next round will implement these things, seems to be Canon's trend with putting out the __D then shortly therefater bumping the Rebel up with some real new cool features which then wind their way back to the next __D about a year later. I think one of the big things is the body itself, I much prefer the layout of the larger body and being able to access things a bit more without menus. Though this new xSI is tempting. Wish it used CF Cards though

Memory cost is so low, 8GB goes for well under $100, that changing formats is no big deal. You'll probably want a bigger card for the increase in pixels and 14 bits.

For underwater use, smaller is good. The one thing about the all the Rebels control that's a pain is not having separate shutter and aperture dials. It's annoying above water and a real pain underwater.

That is my big reservation with the Rebels, though with the old P&S I had there was always a combo I had to hit to change f/stop or shutter (or go into the menu.) Otherwise the camera's size for travel is appealing and the new specs are nice. I think David Hass mentioned though he uses it all the time and never really has a major concern with no seperate dials.

It's certainly doable, but a hassle. How much hassle depends on the housing. I don't know how Dave's Ike housing handles it. It's a screw in, lock button in my Aquatica A300. To me, it's not easy to tell if it's in or out, and I usually end up having to turn the dial and see if it's the Aperture or shutter I'm changing and go on from there. It was a much bigger hassle in cold water where I have 3mm gloves on.

Do not know if someone was able to get an early copy but the 450D/XSi was just announced the end of January and expected to ship in April in the U.S.

just wondering if there is anyone that has got a cannon 450d (that is if they are out in the states yet) and if so what do you think of it and does anyone know if and when the housings will roll out for it,I am from australia and don"t expect to see it here for another couple of months :) ,but from looking at the specs it looks impressive, but it is what it can do in the field that counts.
