Saw that the LX7 was just announced. Worth waiting for, or go for a S100? Also intrigued by the Sony RX100 but wondering about RAW support, etc., and the Lumix f1.4-2.3 lens is attractive.
Out of the three cameras mentioned, Sony RX100 has an 1" sensor, which is 3X larger than the 1/1.7" used by the other two hence better high-iso IQ in RAW and JPEG. See the difference yourself - http://www.imaging-r...OMP/COMPS01.HTM
Both RX100 and LX7 feature 1080 60p HD vs. S100 1080 24p.
Both LX7 and S100 have 24mm WA vs. 28mm for the RX100!
RX100 is only a little thicker than the S100 so it is pocketable and is about 40% smaller than the LX7.

I buy my own photographic kit. Diving equipment manufacturers and diving services suppliers get even-handed treatment from me whether they choose to advertise in the publications I write for or not. All the equipment I get on loan is returned as soon as it is finished with. Did you know you can now get Diver Mag as an iPad/Android app?

Canon G1X. I use one.
Thanks for the input. However, since this is second to my DSLRs, I like the compactness of the S100 and RX100. The size thing can be a slippery slope, what with there always being a better camera just slightly bigger than the last one, but it is what it is. So, I went by the local Sony store to try out the RX100. Nice piece of kit. Feels very well built -- controls operate well. Not much bigger than the S90. So, I used the gift card and bought it. We will see how it plays out, but I like it so far, and Recsea just announced a housing, not that I'm headed that direction any time soon! Biggest negative for me so far is that Sony introduced the camera but the external battery charger won't be out until fall. Pretty stupid, if you ask me. Good news is that there may be aftermarket alternatives that will work.
