As shooters travelling the world, I'm sure all of us dread the day when our equipment gets stolen off airplanes etc. Here at Wetpixel, we've decided to help people list their stolen/loss goods like housings, cameras and other things that have serial numbers. This way should any of the missing equipment show up in the 2nd hand market, potential buyers will have a reference list to check if they are buying stolen equipment. This can possibly aid in arresting the thieves and perhaps even gear recovery.
Some guidelines:
  • Please post the brand name, model name and serial number
  • Any distinguishing marks etc. Photos would be great.
  • When/where/how it was stolen.
  • Only list photographic and dive equipment that have serial numbers(cameras, lens, housings, regulators etc)
  • To minimize clutter, please REFRAIN from posting comments, jokes etc in this thread. We want the serial numbers and equipment only!
There is obviously a very low chance of finding your equipment but at least people buying 2nd hand equipment have a chance to find out if they are buying goods appropriated illegally etc.

Yesterday somebody stole my camera while I was shooting a wedding at Signature Grand at Davie, FL. I just put it down at a table for a few minutes to take pictures of the bride and groom with my other camera and when I wanted to pick it up it was no longer there. The management wasn't particularly shocked when I announced the case....
Please be very careful when you shoot weddings there!!!

I always pay attention to make sure that my equipment is secure but I never thought that somebody could take it in less than a minute during a wedding. The bride and groom's getting ready pictures were on the card... SO BE CAREFUL!

Also, please contact Broward County, FL police department if somebody tries to sell you a Canon 5D Mark II with the following Serial number: 2764B003AA or contact me via haringphotography.com

I hope this helps!!!

Afternoon chaps and chapesses.

A mate of mine has had a stack load of gear nicked from his house on Friday (12 Nov). He's not an underwater photographer, but someone may see it somewhere for sale etc and put two and two toegether. Was nicked in West Lothian, Scotland.

If anyone hears about any of the stuff below, or sees it for sale or Fleabay or equivelant, please can they let me know through my profile?

Many thanks.

Unfortunately, as we were packing up the van to drive back to New York after our last dive on Saturday (5/28/11), my underwater photography equipment was stolen. It happened very quickly, around 4:30 in the afternoon. We were rinsing gear and taking turns heading back to the bunkhouse in shifts to shower, but someone must have been watching us and walked off with the gear as soon as they got the chance, in a brief instant when the picnic table was not being directly observed.

The equipment was a Canon 7D DSLR (serial #0970601694) in a Nauticam housing (serial #A006001), with a Tokina 60 mm macro lens in a flat port, an Inon S2000 strobe and a Mangrove VC-4L6 video light.

SO, the reason that I am posting this here is on the off chance that anyone runs into any gear that sounds like this for sale, or if anyone has any information that might hold a clue, I would really appreciate hearing from you.

I am offering a $1500 reward for the working equipment set, and $200 for the memory card with the images intact … I only lost the last day's images, but those were some of my best! :B):

I have been working with the police, who have contacted the regional pawn shops, etc.. I have been watching Craigslist and eBay. Also, the owner of Olympus Dive Center (Bobby Purifoy), and the charter / sales manager (Nema Triplett) have been fantastic, running down leads, keeping me posted, and circulating this information to their own local contacts, etc…

Safe diving, and thanks for reading this…!

Be careful if buying some second hand gear! These items will soon appear on the second hand market all over the world, cause it was in pristine condition! They are stolen without chargers, cables, warranty papers, original boxes, and other additions, so they will catch your attention anyway. The Nikon D3 had a tripod fixation plate attached from Manfrotto.

Any info if you find some of the items will be helpful by PN please.
