#398088 "Burping" wet lenses specifically WWL-1?

Never needed to burb the WWL-1 with the flotation collar or without it.

#395564 HDR

I have an HLG capable TV and I see a huge difference on true HLG clips compared to std rec709. On underwater HLG I have yet to see that difference.

Here an example that in my view did not work out:
https://youtu.be/wWdZtbR_Prc

I wont even post my HLG trials as they look equally sh@tty :) I got much closer to seeing HDR-like results using LOG, so Ill try to refine my LOG skills a bit more.

This video doesn't bring out any HDR/HLG flags on my tv either and definitely something is wrong with it. I would not consider it a realistic sample of what HLG can do underwater

#393786 Best m43 zoom lens for WWL-1?

The 15mm is the sharpest and obviously the fastest. But looses the OIS. But there is something nice about the image.

Still got the IBIS though!

One more vote for Nauticam over Ikelite. I ve used both and the extra money are worthy.

#391784 Lighting the scene

Posted by Lionfi2s on 27 January 2018 - 11:02 PM

Imagine the same light from above lighting a portion of reef.

I wonder how many lumen output a light like that and how it compare with modern led lights. I used a Halcyon HMI light ten years ago and it was a nightmare.

Halcyon claimed 15000 lumens for the 200W HMI.

15000 Lumens might not be enough to outperform the sun in a shallow reef.

And another one from a recent dive on a small wreck.

Depth is between 36 and 40 meters. Vis was around 10 meters but with lots of suspended particles.

4K 10bit 422 150mbs 24fps, Pic profile standard without alterations, ISO up to 800, Auto focus, manual exposure 180d shutter (mostly).

14-42 PZ with WWL-1. 2x keldan 4x  and 2x sea life sea dragon 2500lm.

EDIT

the video is rendered at 24fps the footage was shot at 30fps

Here is some test footage i got with the GH5 nothing great as i was just trying to learn the camera.

Shot with the 14-42 PZ and WWL-1. 2xKeldan 4x lights

Standard profile without any alteration in the parameters. 4k 30fps 10bit 150mbps. Manual exposure. Auto focus

Manual white balance on the lights

Slight adjustments in Davinci 14 but nothing crazy. The 10bit footage though has lots of room for playing around.

#380105 Sony a7s II underwater use -- All parameters

Posted by Lionfi2s on 01 January 2017 - 07:04 AM

Here is one shot at Dimaniyat islands Oman in November.

Average vis was 10 to 12 meters with lots of suspended particles (July August is a much better season to visit as i was told)

Shot on RX100Mk4 with WWL1 on an Ninja 2 recorder (Pro res 4-2-2 10bit). 2 x Keldan Luna 4x lights. Graded on Davinci Resolve.

Most of the times i was shooting on AWB. Shot on PP 5.

Not super happy with the results but considering the visibility and the actual water colour its not that bad.

Also the original video file looks much better than the one in youtube (need to invest some time in trying to find some good export settings).  I ll try to make a short before after video with some of the scenes.

Feel free to comment.

Nice work! Very natural looking colours and the blue is really good! I like the fact that it's not another oversaturated underwater video but much closer to what we see underwater kind of cinematic look.

Great thread! Thanks to all that contributed.

Only an RX100Mk4 user and doing mostly video with it but the WB issues are the same.

I ll try to post some test videos later on.

Slog2 i find it very useful in scenes like the inside of a cavern looking at the bright light of the entrance. If you expose for the cavern and not using Slog your highlights are completely blown if you protect the highlights then everything else is black. Slog2 gives a happy medium but still need a lot of attention on  how you expose otherwise its too noisy at least on the RX100.

Just got a Ninja 2 monitor so i ll try to see how much difference the increased amount of information ( Prores hq 4-2-2) will do on grading.
