Attached a little clip from our trip to Addu Atoll, the southernmost Atoll of the Maldives in January 2017. Most scenes are from a single dive at "Manta Point" on 14.01.2017, with a few shots from "Gan Kandu South" dive-site added for good measure.

Shot on Sony AX100 camcorder in a Gates housing. Video lights (Keldan 4x) where only used in one shot. All other clips are ambient light shots. Color corrected in Davinci Resolve, edited in Final Cut Pro X.

Music: Dag Reinbott: The Saviour

Hope you enjoy :-)

Great video.  Great clarity and i see everyone is using a reef hook.

How did you like the diving there?  My fiance and I are considering going there in late September or October.  I am afraid that after our trip to Raja and Misool EcoResort, everything will be an anticlimax.  In any event, thanks for posting and do let us know about how you liked the Maldives.  What boat were you on?  thanks,  George

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your comments. this was a resort-based trip. We stayed at the Shangri La Villingili, which is quite nice, not cheap - as everything in the Maldives. Addu is a great place to see lots of Mantas, 15 on a single dive, Reef sharks - and if you are lucky even tiger sharks (we did'nt). It's a small Atoll, so you can reach all dive sites (about 25 of them) from the resort by dive boat. Addu is also known for ripping currents on the channels between inner and outer reef (no way without a hook!) and some sites we could not even get to due to massive waves. A popular place for surfers for that reason as well :-)

However, quite clearly you cannot compare this to Indonesia, but to combine diving with relaxation its great. Last summer has seen some heavy bleaching in the Maldives. On the positive side, things are recovering much better than e.g. at the Great Barrier Reef and you see young stone corals growing everywhere to replace the died-off structures.

Hope this helps.  Burkhard
