I purchased an Olympus 710 last year before a trip to the British Virgin Islands. Did a damn fine job for me...above water. When I got home I bought the Olympus PT-032 u/w case for it and have taken the rig down to 115' with no problems. Photo quality is excellent. I know use this camera and cae on beach trips and in the swimming pool. I have stepped up the the Olympus E-410 with uw case and an Inon Z240 strobe for my diving adventures.

Several people have used them below 100 feet without a housing.

I've got a Stylus 850SW that I use for Mountain Biking and other Outdoor activities.
I like it OK as far as picture quality and reliability but unless Oly has changed some things on the new camera I'll bet these issues still exist:

Proprietary USB connection (one more cable to keep track of)
Does not charge from the Computer while plugged into USB (must carry the charger with)
Expensive storage media. (there are other more "standard" forms.

I'd be interested to hear if Oly has changed any of this.

Haven't seen any mention of the new u-TOUGH cameras... Oly has changed the line from "SW" to "TOUGH" and the new cameras come with new housings as well that look quite interesting. I've just placed an order on a u-TOUGH 6000 and a housing and hopefully will get it next week before a trip to Sipadan.

What I found especially intriguing is the comment that "Internal flash can be used underwater to trigger digital compatible slave". While this is a given for any compact, I wonder if this means that Oly has integrated FO sockets in these housings as they haven't previously mentioned this for any of their housings (it would make sense since they now have their own range of strobes, strobe arms etc...).

I will provide a report as soon as I have it.
