#356701 Your Favourite/Best Image of 2014

Posted by fforbes on 17 January 2015 - 02:05 PM

I love this annual tradition, even though as always it is very humbling. I have 2 favorites this year, one for a subject I fell in love with, the beautiful thresher shark --- and the other because it marked the first attempts at using a snoot, a technique that is making me rethink all the macro subjects I have taken over the years.

Have a great 2015 everyone!

I look forward to this thread every year, and am always humbled by the beautiful photos posted here. I'd like to put up two, one macro, taken in Anilao, PI, the first time I had ever heard of a hairy shrimp, much less had one pointed out to me… and since my new home is now California, a shot from Santa Barbara of two sealions… poor vis and nothing special, I just liked the composition!

#338037 Subal ND800

I have a 100mm dome custom made for the 15mm Sigma lens, also the lens shade was shaved down somewhat. I am quite happy with it, I use it for almost 100% of my WA photos. I used it with my D700 in Subal housing and am now using it with the D800 in Subal housing.

A couple of examples:

#323306 Favourite Image Of 2012

I always look forward to this thread, and always am so impressed with the talent on this site. I wasn't too happy with my images this year. I made a camera and housing switch mid-year and had a lot of bugs to work out, not to mention small talent and little imagination!

I'm going to post 2 photos, one from the last trip with my old faithful camera, the Nikon D700. (It happens to be for sale, inquire within :-) ). It was taken at the Monterrey Shootout and won first, macro in its class.

The next is with the new camera (D800) and a housing which shall remain nameless, and which was quickly returned for another brand. The pic isn't so much a favorite but it was the first time I saw an orangutan crab with eggs.

Happy shooting in 2013 everyone! Hope to meet you on a trip!

#319646 Ambon, Indonesia image - Orangutan crab with eggs

I had never seen this crab with eggs before. I suppose his "fur" would normally cover them up. Taken with Nikon D800, 600 lens with +5 Subsea diopter_F8F3592-2.jpg eggs closeup (1 of 1).jpg

Have others seen this?

Whoops! That should have been a 60mm lens.

My husband still mimics the day when I got my first DSLR, a Nikon D100, 3 camera bodies ago...

" OMG, this camera is FABULOUS, this will last me the rest of my life!!!"
