Well lets see. I stopped working on liveaboard boats in the Pacific in May of 2004 and discovered the internet!
Was searching for underwater photo contests on Google and wetpixel came up. I entered that contest and started reading some of the threads and decided i could give some good insight seeing as i had done nothing but take UW photos for the previous 5 years...but i didn't know jack about digital other than scanning my slides. This sight became an invaluable resource to me in figuring out how to get the best out of my scans as i had trouble ever getting them to look the same as my glossy, saturated Fuji film.
Ever since then wetpixel has become an addiction and i am honoured to now be a mod!

Thanks for the last 18 months of great community interaction.

I think it was from something I read somewhere - possibly Underwater photography mag (the one on the net by Pete Rowlands). I'm a long time viewer but don't get chance to post very much. I love the site though

Referred to from a Dutch uw photo website (cant remember which), and/or the UW-photo mailinglist.

The recommandation was split between wetpixel and digidiver. Wetpixel's interface is much better, so i started posting and reading here initially, and havent looked back.

Ditto, did my first photo dive with a rental camera, the film got lost in the mail. So, I wanted to see about buying my own camera. Loved the idea of a digital as I could processs the pics myself.

I came across Wetpixel way back in late 1999 or early 2000 after following the Underwater Photo Webring from my site! That was when David Breitigam (sp?) had it (as Herb would say, BE). I didn't post in the forums, but I would visit the site to soak up the digital news.

Some bastards on another forum said to get the hell off of their list, it was for film shooters only...."go to Wetpixel". Now their list is almost exclusively digi. So here I am. Been two years. Now those two chat amongst themselves, probably swapping spit among other things.

anyone remember when steves-digicams had an uw forum? how about when alan cabrera was importing gray market underwater photo gear?..........must have been sometime around late 2000 or early 2001...............anyway, just prior to purchasing my c4040 and ds 50.......and the demise of steves-digicams underwater photo forum........

btw still shooting the c4040............and it's still smarter than me.......
