Issues addressed with D2X Firmware Ver. 1.01
-Autofocus performance has been increased.
-An issue that prevented the AF-assist illuminator from firing when the Speedlights listed below were used has been corrected.
SB-29S, SB-29, SB-23, SB-22S, SB-22, SB-20.
-In images captured at a shutter speed of 1/250 s with a Speedlight SB-800, set to Distance-priority manual flash (GN), or Manual flash (M) with flash output set to full (M1/1) mounted on the camera, the top portion was often dark. This issue has been addressed. However, under the circumstances described above only, the guide number is reduced from that of full flash output level by approximately 0.6 EV.
-Images captured at white-balance settings of Incandescent, Direct sunlight, Cloudy, Shade, and Choose color temp. tended to have a reddish tint. This issue has been addressed.
-Errors in Dutch menus have been corrected.
I will try to update my camera later today...
Best regards,
Marcelo Krause.

Not quite sure how the AF could be improved. But looking forward to finding out more about that.

I guess that it evolves a lot of complicated math calculations, and they will need some more time.
Best regards,
Marcelo.

The update is now available at Nikon USA and Europe (it was only on Nikon Asia before). Some users at the Nikonians forum are reporting greatly improved AF performance, but as Alex said, I don't see how it can get any better. Maybe it's the placebo effect
Here is the link for the update at the Nikon USA site (just do a search with D2x and the two first hits are going to be the updates):

I could explain it, but there are very clear step-by-step instructions and screenshots at the Nikon site (link on my post above). It will be much easier if you follow their instructions.

P.S.: I also had never upgraded before, and found this first time very easy.
