Wetpixel is proud to announce the return to an interactive Picture of the Week contest, with public, member submissions and voting. As before, members may enter up to 2 images per week, and each weekly contest will enter a voting period for a week before the results are tallied and presented. It's the perfect opportunity to enter some of your hard-earned images into a friendly, public contest.

During testing of the system last week, your tireless staff uploaded some beautiful images for you to vote on. There is already a new POTW contest accepting entries, so ... go show off!

Have you tried, or are you asking before you have tried? (should be obvious, once you go to the site: http://wetpixel.com/competition )

Hi Eric et al,

I believe "mrbubbles" asked the question because once you are in the contest gallery for the currently open contest, there is no link to "enter the contest."

To enter, just back out of the contest gallery to the link that Eric posted.

Hello, fellow community members!

we'd love to use the staff voting contest as a place to test the voting system. Could really use your help there. :)

Hi Eric,
I was surprised at the loss of detail and compressed look of the images I entered in the new contest. I'll link directly to one of the images so you can see what I mean.

Yuck! I hate to post a photo and have it look like crap. I looked at the stuff in the staff contest and it looks fine. Should I have sized it differently?

Larry -

I didn't do anything different to the images that I uploaded. I just resized them, and saved them at JPG 90 or something in Photoshop.

Unfortunately, jpg re-compression is a reality we have to live with, since bandwidth is not free, but I'll take a look at the settings to see if there's a better balance I can achieve.

Also, it appears that I have set the contest to resize to 600 pixels, and not 640. So it may be the combination of a resize from 640->600, plus a recompress!

After this contest ends, i'll correct the size to 640 pixels.

Eric, I think 600 is a good size, but maybe you should add a line on the submission page saying that images will look best if submitted with 600 pixels in the long dimension and in sRGB color space.

Yeah, I saved mine to 640 and the posts are pretty muddy. Can we replace an image somehow?

I know, whine, whine, whine....

I'll get to it as fast as I can. Once I replace the configuration with a 640 pixel number, anyone who wants to resubmit can e-mail me with a direct link to the image they want deleted. please wait until I post here to do that...

I had to change the back-end voting system, which *may* be the reason behind votes disappearing. Sorry! Once the system stabilizes, we'll be all set.

Let me know if you experience any more losing of votes in the coming days...
