Hi all, a difficult subject, but does anyone know if there is such a thing as a payment guideline for U/W articles? And is there a difference between say a travel story or an indepth technical story? Is payment usually done per page, or per letter, or for a whole article? Anyone willing to share some fee information?

Every magazine has its own fee schedule. For example, they may have a fee for a short 1/2 page article on a conservation piece, with accompanying photo. Generally the longer the article, the more $$. Some pay per word, some pay by column length. These fees range from absolutely nothing (really <_< ) to the same as a cover shot for a feature piece with photos for a magazine with a large circulation base. Most are closer to the former! The amount of advertising contained in the magazine, and the circulation base generally helps to determine fees.
Sorry not to be specific, but the range is so great one cannot possible generalize, except to say I wish it was lots and lots of moolah.
