I think the SD card slot is a bit odd as well. SD cards don't have near the capacity of CF cards (8 gigs). This makes me think the camera might slot in between the D50 and D70s

Also, if you look at the top-down view on engadget, you can see on the mode dial that it has a lot of amateur "scene modes." Looks "prosumer."

Hey Kasey great point. ( haven't heard from you for a while hows it all going under the carribean)

I am inclined to think that this is replacement for the D70 & D50 . SD only really says a lot about the positioning of this product.
Certainly makes good sense to me that the range would be consumer D80 , a prosumer D200 and Professional D2X..

While we're speculating anybody wanta to have a guess at when the Pro upgrade will be ?

While we been sleeping, SD card has fast become the standard for cameras. Most new laptops has a SD slot. The cost of a 4GB SD card is now under $100, so this is hardly a big issue even for those upgrading from cameras that uses compactflash.

Well, SD is certainly smaller, and I love my SD+USB card. No card reader needed!
