Being a resident in Hong Kong, I must admit that the water around Hong Kong has been heavily polluted and the visitibility can somtimes fall less than a meter....but still, there are some goodies for us to dive for!!

Hi Ringo, nice that you were able to get such good shots in polluted/murky water. How far from town are those dive sites? I will visit Hong Kong next year and I am trying to decided if I will go diving or not...

Most of the dive sites in HK can be accessible by an around 1 hour boat ride start out from "Sai Kung"--a country side behind the busy city hustle.
The dive's gotta be easy as it might very unlikely to be deeper than 10 meter, but the visibility can get nasty and can drop to within a meter(try to imagine that you cannot see your own hand when you try to reach out your hand in front of your face!!). The water temp is around 26c during the summer season of May-Oct, and can drop to 14c in the winter during Nov to March.

Ringo,

You're braver than I ever was when I lived in HK. The last time I was willing to put my head under in Hong Kong waters was about 1982. I'd think be most worried about infections. I understand it has a lot to do with currents and bodies of water, but I've heard you can run into some pretty nasty stuff even out in Mirs Bay. Nice photos. Good luck.

Frogfish, ah it aint that bad... The water's much cleaner up around the Sai Kung dive sites and further up north. The vis though is usually pretty bad, but once in awhile we'll get a surprise with some OK viz. Best time is in the winter, but that's semi-dry/ dry suit diving... brrr.... maaybe I'll drag out my DSLR rig then... :)

Ringo, nice shots... Good to see a fellow HK based wetpixeler... see u around Sai Kung... :P I dive with South China Diving Club...
