Apart from that: I seem to remember vaguely that Cousteau had a glimps of one diving deep in a submersible. It must be described in one of his books, but i cant find it (anymore ?)
Anyone have an idea

Still don't know what they want to capture it when they have so many dead ones for study.

A truly sad end to a magnificent beast. Typical human behavior.

there are quite a few squid ... I don't think they are in danger of extinction at all.
that just sounds terribly scientific to me; here's a species we know nothing about and as another species eats a lot of on them we reckon there are enough down there for a couple of years worth of squid burgers for us too before we need to "research" them...?
*sigh*

Could you provide a link about that? Since this is the first one caught almost alive, how do they know they are high in ammonia? I guess they would be high in ammonia after they decompose for a bit...
