Hi,

Does anyone have an english language manual for the INON z-240. I purchased mine assuming it had english instructions, but turns out not; I'm planning to use the S-TTL function with my Fujii F30.

You're in luck... Well I don't have the English manual but I have that identical setup so I can give you a step by step...

If you are looking at the back of the z240.

Power dial (top left) - start out with STTL Low

ev dial (top right) - set to 12 oclock

Adv circuitry cancel button (bottom right) - leave up. Fuji F30 emits a preflash. If you have a camera with no preflash then depress and lock this button

Now with an optical cable attached, you ready to go...

If the exposure is too dark, turn the ev dial RIGHT. Too bright, turn ev dial left. If it's still too dark, then switch the power dial to STTL from STTL low and start over again with the ev dial at 12 oclock (B?)

If you want to shoot manual, switch the power dial to, surprised, "manual". Now you can use the ev dial in 12 or so steps starting from 9 oclock (lowest) to about 8 oclock full.

If you want to quickly get a full dump, then turn the power dial to FULL. This will overide any ev dial setting.


Focus light (bottom left button) - that's for turning on the focus light. 1 push and it will stay on for a set time and turn off automatically. If you want to keep it on all the time, depress and turn to lock.

Play around with it topside to get a feel for the adjustments described above. Happy shooting!!

Sorry, don't have any advice to give regarding your system, (I use a hard wired system with the HW-converter) but on a general I could have done just as well with the japanese version, as I found the english one to be totally impossible to follow. I just did a lot of testing on the kitchen table to find out how it worked. Great little strobe btw.

Thanks for the run through.... had a lot of fun in the lake last evening trying it out...... I found that using the system (0.5 white diffuser, set on S-TTL) with the F30 set on auto with forced flash gave a good representation of colour (I was in a very green lake at max 7 metres), whilst trying to use the F30 set on aperture priority at ISO100, various f stops produced pictures with a strong blue hue, even though the water was clearly very green! However the contrast has excellent.

I am assuming the F30 auto focus green light doesn't trigger the focus light (I've tried it without success), and I guess the laser component only works with other Inon system cameras/housings.

I used the fisheye lens which was very impressive, my only concern will be losing a very expensive lens in current, as there doesn't appear to be away of attaching a line to retain it in case of emergencies!

Adrian, I would turn off the F30 focus assist light. Don't think it really helps. Also don't think the z240 focus light can be triggered (it's manual).

I would suggest putting the F30 in A/S mode and set it on aperture priority and try to keep the aperture small (f8). Also, try setting ISO to 100 but feel free to up the ISO to 800 when shooting ambient.

Lastly, WB... If you are using the strobe and macro, you could leave it on auto. But if you are shooting wide angle, try MWB against a slate.
