Sony's version of the D300 was announced today. There's a hands-on preview at DPreview.com:

http://www.dpreview....s/SonyDSLRA700/

The camera is compatible w/ Minolta lenses for those who haven't followed the mergers and acquisitions history :-)

Most interesting to me is the sensor info: "12.2 megapixel APS-C 'Exmor' CMOS
For its first 'advanced amateur' model Sony has dropped the CCD used in the A100 and moved to a totally new 12MP CMOS sensor. Designed to offer low noise and high speed (thanks to its on-chip A/D conversion) the 'Exmor' sensor puts the A700 in direct competition with Nikon's new D300."

It seems to me a very nice camera. Hands on previews available on the net are also promising. I hope, at least Ikelite will continue to support the sony line.

Interesting lenses...great camera price...

Take a D300, add in-camera VR. two memory card slots, then price it like a 40D. Impressive.

How would you like to be a Sony salesman and have to say that we have a BIONZ processor? DIGIC was silly enough, EXPEED is cool sounding me-too marketing, but BIONZ is just plain sad.
I love it when a plan comes together.

And with the in-camera VR(SSS), you don't have to bother with a fat macro lens to find an appropriate ports.
Your old lenses will be stabilized. The 50 mm macro and the wide-angle lenses as well.
