The Maldives is a garland-shaped chain of 26 atolls stretching 750 kilometers across the equator, in the Indian Ocean, southwest of India. The atolls girdle over 1190 emerald islands, most of them uninhabited, and countless reefs and shallows to form a complete echo system that acts as a magnet for a cornucopia of colorful marine life ranging from blooming corals to big pelagic fish. Perhaps nowhere else in the world is fish life as rich as it is in the Maldives.
Situated on a beautiful tropical island in the remote and peaceful Wakatobi archipelago in the Banda Sea, the Wakatobi Dive Resort and liveaboard dive vessel, The Pelagian, offers what many consider to be the best reef diving in the world, offering incredible marine life diversity, color and natural splendor.
An avid diver and underwater photographer, Mark Snyder has visited these two spectacular dive destinations over two dozen times and is a consulting photographer at the Wakatobi resort and aboard both The Manthiri and The Pelagian. Having recently traveled to the Maldives in late September 2007, Mark will present some of his current, as well as, most astonishing photography.
