If you look at the map then Grand Cayman is probably as far away from you as you could possibly get mate. You'd either have to go via west coast US or Europe so I think it would take you two days and probably AUS$3-4000 just to get there. Bummer If you talk to the organizers they maybe able to come up with a swap with someone? Just an idea.

Simon that's a good idea...I wonder if we can swap with the guy from the USA that won a trip to PNG?
I had a look on Google Earth and Grand Cayman is certainly a long way away.

I would swap with you Simon but I have so many FLASHLIGHTS in my cupboard already.

As for being loaded....yeh right....but buying realestate here when we did has certainly been a good move though.

Hey, stop "belly-aching" guys - I got Mares dive gear....... I'm so maxed out on dive gear with two of everything it is probably the last thing I need).

If someone wants to make a deal I'm always open to offers...... (from every other contest winner who is probably maxed out on dive gear also).

Hey Carol, you can never have too much dive gear! Congratulations on your Manatee image. Sometimes one is skilled and lucky enough to get an image whose story pulls on the heart strings. Your image speaks volumes. It goes against most of the "rules" for underwater photography, yet it's perfect. It is a testament to all those hours you spend with your favorite animals. It was nice to see you rewarded for all the hard work. Even if you did just win some dive gear.

Hey Carol,

HM placings got about $1,100 worth of strobes so assuming diver gear is worth more than that I am pretty darn happy. Never too much stuff, and my wife could use some new gear. Could be worse...

Third place in video gets an Ikelite light and there were no honorable mentions - moral of the story. SHoot stills

It is quite funny how there is so much more for stills than VIDS when in fact it takes allot more work to send in a Vid. Not only do you have to know how to shoot Vid but you have to be and Editor as well.

I suppose thats why so many more take up stills as it's less work.

I didn't want to neglect to say thank you for this kind acknowledgment. As Alex can attest to I spend a lot of study & prep time and then in-water time very still in pretty cool water, observing, moving very slowly & quietly, etc. and trying to depict what I see & tell the story, just as I see it - the fascinating Florida manatee and the enchanting springs. I'll put it all together one of these days when I have the "complete" story........

Ah, I'll do something with the dive gear, just kidding of course - I'm honored to place and win anything.

Nah...when you get to Alex's level you just jump in, find your subject and BAM !! award winning shot and a free holiday to the tropics after meeting the Queen....

Where as me, I take two spawning seasons, 100+ dives, hours of producing, editing, planning and composing music scores... To get a piece of paper and a trophy...

BUT !!!

I'm bloody chuffed to bits !!!!! as it shows recognition for my work and I get to travel to festivals and meet amazing people

Anyway I haven't got time to go to Indopacificbahamanesia....I've got Quarries to dive and 4-5oc of water to enjoy... Tally HO !!!!!!

Seriously, if anyone knows how to transfer a trip, I won a liveaboard in Indonesia that I would love to trade for gear or cash. Otherwise, this will be the second prize I will have to throw away cuz I can't afford the airfare.
