Problem with ikelite ds125
Posted 02 March 2008 - 08:28 AM
Strobe worked fine on last dive.
I recharged the battery back and now the strobe
doesn't fire. The modeling light is working fine, fuel gauge
shows full power, but strobe ready light doesn't go on
and strobe doesn't fire.
I did not drop the strobe or flood it.
The strobe ready light blinks for a mili second when I switch it
from "strobe on" to "strobe on with model light".
I don't hear the strobe charging up either.
Has anybody had the same or similiar problem and know how to
solve the problem without sending it back to ikelite?
I have already used the modeling light to enable me to recharge
the battery pack, changed the slave sensor (I have a ds 50 as well),
connected a single ikelite cord to the strobe as well and short the wires
as per the manual description but no luck...
Any help will be appreciated

FWIW I don't know of anything that will stop the charge pump circuit in the strobe not to work - thats the high frequency noise that you hear when you turn the unit on - other than a flat battery and it is not that in your case.
Also when the strobe has charged up and then turned off then immediately back on all of my DS125's dump a flash.
Sorry but - I think it is wanting a vacation at the repair station.

I know this is 5 years later, however I'm curious to know if you found a solution? I've just bought secondhand 2 x DS125 strobes - one of which has exactly the same symptoms!
BTW - I knew one DS125 was poorly when I bought - mostly I was after the spare chargers & battery heads; the plan is to see what lighting I get with the working DS125 (with my existing 2 x DS160's for portraits) and then maybe upgrade it to a DS160 when I can afford to splash out again!
Appreciate if you or anyone knows the answer to to this non-flashing strobe; whether it is a bulb or other.
