That's a big deal. I use C1 and C2 to store my jump settings for stills and video -- would suck not to get audio! Good to know. It's a minor issue with C1-3 recording no audio if you do not turn it to M or other modes first. Starting up in C1-3 will have no audio recorded. Shows you how often people shoot with C1-3 that the beta testers didn't find this.
I'm moving this as it should stay under the firmware so people can find out about this while searching.

All this multi-tasking has certainly taken me further into my EOS menus than I have been since ... well ... since... my EOSs got menus

It seems that there is a problem with the latest firmware update
"Recently we have discovered a malfunction that occurs with Firmware Version 2.0.3, in which the manual recording levels for C1/C2/C3 are changed and the camera becomes unable to record audio if the power is turned off (or if Auto power off takes effect) after registering “Sound Recording: Manual” in the camera user settings."
If you’re already using the new firmware, you can avoid this issue by having your sound recording settings set to “Auto” when using C1/C2/C3.
Canon are working on an updated update!

Canon have released a version 2.0.4 of their 5DmkII firmware upgrade that addresses the issues above.
It is on Canon Japan's servers here
It is very new-so all the usual caveats apply!

Tried it and it works now.... just waiting for something else to break!
There are some issues which are emerging...the main problem being iris "jitter" during manual focus:
http://5dmark2.wordp...firmware-2-0-4/
It looks like its only a problem if one pulls manual focus during video, which isn't easy to do anyway... even with a good Follow Focus unit (converted mine to do manual Zoom instead).
So I'm not too worried about it...(but I'm keeping handy 1.1.0 just in case).
Crappy panning at 24/25p is, I think, a fact of life with this "retro" frame rate...people are just noticing how bad it is after being forced to use 30p before the upgrade.
