So - Who is stuck where ?

Seems from another post JB and Simon Spear are stuck in Florida.
I am stuck in Washington State / Oregon.
Talking privately & off record to airline contacts they are saying don't plan on a return flight until May at least. They won't currently even re-issue my trashed ticket.
Guy on duty at the Canadian border crossing said to me "why are you entering the USA so soon after leaving (six hours), told him plane had been canceled due to a small volcano issue in Iceland. "I ain't heard about no canceled planes - where is Iceland anyhow?".
About then I gave up.
To be honest, all jokes aside this is all starting to look messy. The knock on for the world economy is about to make the Icelandic bank mess look like a sideshow.
Not that we can blame Iceland itself in any way on this one.

No way is any airline sending a plane into London or anyplace with a small "weather window" that is likely to open and close.
The couple of flights that have got into Scotland took off again without passengers due to fears of getting the aircraft marooned on the ground.
To be honest May is looking optimistic - my sources are privately saying.
Truly a mess - the transatlantic boats are already full.
The blue sky without con trails will come at a price - if this were to continue we are going to see a collapse in business and a round of unemployment as the economy cannot take a major hit so soon after the banking crisis.
How long I wonder before some politician claims the reduction in CO2 from reduced air traffic ?

My parents and brother are stuck in Cayman, but father retired and brother already done exams for this year, so they aren't exactly stressed.

I'm only looking at bbc online from time to time... Is May a serious time frame for flights getting back to normal?
Are people in the UK getting ash falling or is it just 'thick' air stopping the planes flying?
Disclaimer: written after 2 bottles of wine with MV, just incase i sound stupid

I have seen no signs of ash falling down on the south coast Si. British Airways have sent a plane up to see what the situation is. Willie Walsh himself is on the flight. They are in the air as I type but as soon as I know what the outcome is I will post. I just hope PRC gets home to Guernsey, with my new zen, gets it posted to me, i get it, then get my flights to get out to NAD.
Hope to share a few beers with you both soon.

As I understand it KLM have also lofted a test plane and on its return decided there was no problem that they could find.
Think everyone is trying to decide what constitutes a realistic test that does not involve passenger safety.
Hey Stew - you want me to email or fax you the dome ?

The co-worker that stayed 2 more days in Cologne got stuck and is driving a rented car to Madrid to fly home later in the week. Now 'stuck' far from the ocean but that is not new.

April 29th and the routing is horrid.
They suggested to try again in a few days to see if it could be brought forward.
