New thinking for the new digital age - Stock agency WENN signs deal with Plixi to commercially exploit images posted on Twitter, but no mention of due reward to the creator/photographer.

No, I am not making this one up. Its retrospective too...... good celebrity images (oxymoron? discuss.....on separate thread....) do have significant value even in this day & age - think four or five figure sums for rights. Whoever thought this one up may well have done the maths and realised it could be a nice little earner.
Currently its restricted to the celebrity-style shots, but when someone sees the business model working I will give it precisely 30 seconds of thinking time in the boardroom before the net is cast wider and images of a more general nature hosted on social sites throughout the web are harvested.
This neatly explains why the right to sub-license clause in the T&Cs of many sites has a similar whiff to something I stepped in earlier today.
