Stephen Frink’s Advanced Digital Course, Key Largo, July 30 – August 6, 2011, $1,295 course fee, 14 students

This course is held only in the summer in Key Largo to assure the best possible weather and water clarity conditions. Key Largo also offers the advantage of the infrastructure of Stephen’s studio, staff, and longtime friends at Ocean Divers. Actually, summer in Key Largo may offer the world’s best underwater classroom, with clear water and massive fish populations within the protected waters of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and the special Sanctuary Preservations Areas (no-take zones) off Key Largo.

Our group operates as a private charter aboard Ocean Divers’ 48-foot custom dive boat Santana. Set up perfectly for day diving with underwater photographer’s convenience in mind, the Santana offers a wide and stable platform, dual camera tables, camera rinse tanks, and fresh water showers. The daily choice of dive sites is dictated by the kinds of subjects we are covering, chosen for the best opportunities for wide angle, macro, or fish photographs.

The course template includes daily two tank dives and classroom sessions. This course is optimized for those using digital SLR cameras, but high-end point-and-shoot cameras are acceptable as long as they have an auxiliary flash and supplementary wide-angle optic. The course is limited to 14 students to assure personal attention and ample review time for the projected digital images. Bring your laptop, bring your housed digital camera, and conquer the Brave New World of underwater digital imaging. Special guest, Eddie Tapp (a Canon Explorer of Light and member of the Photoshop Hall of Fame) will be on hand to teach the digital post-production portion of this class (Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom).

Only 14 students are accepted so book early to reserve a spot! The course fee for Stephen Frink’s School of Digital Underwater Photography is $1,295. Additional expenses include the diving and lodging packages. We recommend participants stay at Marina Del Mar Oceanside. This is where the classroom sessions are held, and the proximity to Ocean Divers assures maximum convenience and comfort.

Do you have a dive package through the dive shop and a hotel package set up. Just wondering what the cost would be.

Oops ... sorry for slow reply, Kirk. I was on press last week with new issue of Alert Diver and forgot to check back on this thread. Here's the info on the hotel and diving packages, in addition to the course fee. We package separately because there are so many lodging options in Key Largo, although the one we use, Marina Del Mar is by far the most convenient for the class:

Costs are:
6 day photo seminar - $1295
boat charter with Ocean Divers - 6 diving days, two tank dives per day - $595
7 nights accommodation at Marina Del Mar Resort -
- $880 for the island view room
- $1040 for the marina view room

You are not obligated to stay at this resort but it is the most
convenient since the classes will be held in the meeting room
there and it is adjacent to Ocean Divers.

The seminars will begin on Sunday at 9AM thru Friday PM - Saturdays
are travel days.

More detailed information is available at

Thanks for asking.
