Whoa, check this out. Some one at Sony was thinking like a shooter when they laid this out. The view finder is on the side like the old range finder. Not that I have shuch a big nose, but one can put the VF close to the eye a steady the camera against the cheek instead of a greasy nose print on the LCD. The hot shoe is centered over the lens. Let's see what shakes out next Wed.

The reports on this camera seem to be quite similar. This looks like the "micro 4/3s" camera I've been waiting for (though the sensor is APS-C, bigger than micro 4/3s). I have a Nex5 and like it a lot. The NEX-C3 is also nice. But this may be my underwater camera. Also a new flash is out (I have it, much bigger, better than one that ships with kits) and there is a new macro lens coming (available for pre-order on Amazon), and other new lenses to be (hopefully) announced 8/24.

This looks like a killer camera, though the price is projected to by above that of the d7000!
The overall selection of lenses is tiny, as of yet. And a big sensor requires big lenses, to get a fast aperture.

The also rumored panasonic gf7, rangefinder type with full manual controls and built in viewfinder/evf. Micro4/3rds has a comparatively vast lens selection, and many of the lenses are higher quality than the nex so far, as sony's cameras have been aimed at p&s upgraders.

The funniest thing.. i just sold my nex5 to a friend.
Never house it though.
and now the trend is travel light and everyone seems to be downgrading.
am i too early in selling my nex5 or am i too late to upgrade...

btw, 3 words to sony. LENSES LENSES LENSES.
im into macro. and the only offering they have is a 30mm macro lens.
When is it going to arrive? One thing's for sure,
i wouldnt hold my breath for it!

If there's one thing i would love for the nex7 is that
the housing manufacturer actually have ports for the housing.
Ports that actually have the capability to use MF lens.
Boy, i buy that right away!

Yeah, im aware of that.
Saw some pics of it with the epl1 on flickr.
Cant deny that the pics were sharp and crisp.
But sony... u know it,i know it.. (read:more bodies than lenses)
So it's up to the housing manufacturer.

! Muy caro! That's the price with the 18-55 kit lens. The body is $1199 USD MSRP. Sony has been producing exchangeable lens camera for a bout 6 years. There are some wonderful features in the cameras. What is needed are more lens choices. I can swallow the price, but would want the equivalent to the Tokina 10-17 FE, Sigma 17-70 Macro, 60 and 105 (40 – 70 mm macro zoom would be nice) Nikkor macros for U/W.

Looks like a great travel pocket rocket. I see what the G7 looks like after PMA (Jan 2012). Then it will be time to buy in.

Sony has the Fisheye adaptor for the 16mm pancake, hope to try that out soon, the included 18-55 is pretty good behind a 6" dome, I forgot to bring the wife's camera today or I'd have some test shots to upload, a 30mm macro is coming but there's also word that Sigma and maybe Tamron are coming out with NEX lenses.

I'm hoping the new NEX-5N fits in the existing NEX-5 housing...or just needs minimal tweaking. =)

Yes, the FE adapter yields ~ 15 mm (135 format) and the w/a adapter ~ 18 mm. The Tonk 10-17 behind a 4-1/3" dome w/o a diopter is very sweet.

Do you have the EVF? If so, what is the eye point (max distance from the finder screen to eye) w/o optical vinetting?

Me too. Looking at the specification of both bodies, dimensions are exactly the
same and - comparing pictures available - it seems that the only button that has
slightly changed position is the playback one, moved from top panel and now
adjacent to the movie record button.

Maybe guys from Nauticam can reveal if they had some pre-production body and clarify
this matter…

Can't tell you about the Nauticam, I'm an Aquatica dealer only. =). But having some experience in modding housings, an offset button won't be too hard to make.

One overlooked item in the flood of new sony goodies is the LA-EA2 adapter:



With this adapter you can use any sony alpha lenses, minolta lenses and 3rd party offers for the mount (e.g. tamron 60mm macro). It has own motor for screw drive type AF, so pretty old lenses can be used as well.
I was wondering why not to create a similar modul for canon and nikon lenses??
It's a good step towards a perfect modular system.

This module would likely not fit in a housing meant for a NEX-5 and E-mount lens. If the module were same as lens diameter maybe, but with the extra bits on the bottom, I don't think so.

The NEX(s) are NOT 4/3-ers (Oly & PanY). They are APS-C sensor ~ 1.5 crop factor from full 35 x 26 mmm sensor.

The lens adapter has a tripod mount on the bottom. I doubt any manufacturer will make a NEX housing that can use this.

That's why god invented the Dremel. It is too bad about the adapter, I was getting really excited but it is clearly too big to fit in the Nauticam housing and sony still doesn't have any lenses yet.

The NEX 7 looks to be a very exciting camera. I had a chance to shoot the NEX-5 in the Nauticam housing at the Digital Shootout this year, and really loved it. Between the 18-55 with an add-on dioptre and the 16mm pancake with the fisheye adapter, it's a pretty versatile little system. Would love to see some movement from Sigma on new E-mount lenses, especially longer macro options. The achilles heel was the control set, and adding the two additional dials is a masterstroke to solve this. The price point is pretty brutal, but probably to be expected for 24MP 10fps.

I really like the Micro 4/3 system, especially for the lens selection, and I'll be really interested to see what becomes of the GF-7. But I have to say, I'm definitely more tempted than ever by the NEX system. Really great that it looks like the NEX-5N is physically identical.

Yep-ers, but a 3rd party would likely make an adapter sans the tripod mount. With only one control, this system would be limited to primes for MF. I have the Nexus multi-port (focus or zoom control in the port) that could be adapted to the Nauti, but it would dwarf the housing.
