I've just got back from a week up in Far North Queensland, doing expedition photography for some underwater exploration of the Mt Hypipamee Crater. The Crater is actually a volcanic vent, where expanding gases blow out a huge hole in the rock. We were hoping (without success) to find a tunnel, rumoured to be at 80m+ and heading down. A complete circumnavigation at 73m max depth found no such thing, and 2m vis made for tricky photography. I think most of the fun was in the rope work required to descend 60m into the crater to the water surface, and playing in the duckweed.

The story and some of my photos got picked up by the local paper, see here: http://www.cairns.co...local-news.html

I've also done a write-up of the first dive and photos on my site at http://photographyunderpressure.com

My favourite shot from the week was one taken of me rather than by me, with thanks to Ken Smith - duckweek ahoy!
