Trawling the bottoms of the deep seas is enormously damaging to the ecosystem and in 2006 the UN adopted a resolution to address this by 2008. However, many countries have failed to act. September 15-16 the UN general assembly will hold a open workshop to review the actions taken by States to protect deep-sea ecosystems and sustainably manage deep-sea fisheries.
