Sony NEX-FS700.

This beast could take u/w video frustration to a whole new level, as you engage your 8-second 240fps burst, only for your frogfish talent to strike it's prey after 8.1 seconds.

Anyway, housing manufacturers, please build housings for this, and leave room for the accompanying Sony 4K recorder. Thanks!

The slow-motion videos look really good:

Stills from this camera should be good also!

So now I understand that the super slomo bursts can be triggered after the event, and the slomo frames written from the buffer. Perfect for working with children and animals. So that's great, as long as the button is very quickly accessible on housings.

It does look very interesting. I've been using a FS100 topside for the last 6 months and it is a fantastic camera. Add onto that the extra features of the FS700 and you really could have a game changer (until the next game changer).

The fs100 is avchd like the rest of the nxcam range, but you need to forget everything you thought you knew about the codec because it really is rather excellent on these cameras. Even though it maxes out at 28mbps it is certainly as good as 35mbps xdcam. You can still use external recorders for higher bitrates but all the tests I've seen question the need as the codec is that good you can't really tell any difference.

I get him everytime...

Really You should have said it's more comparable or even better 'under strenuous edit' to the 'EX' XDCAM codec of 35mbps as the actual XDCAM codec is 50mbps... However it's not just down to the codec itself there is sensor size etc etc... Mpeg2 v new gen mpeg4 (around double so say 48mbps in the 'EX' XDCAM format blah blah a monkey could work that out...

I love him really :) I just play on the fact he wishes he had an Ex1 instead of a silly DSLR or a Sony (plastic toy) FS100 :P

LOL

Cam looks bloody great, in fact looking at the specs if it had an HDSDI out why would you ever buy a F3 or even a F65. I'm sure it will have a HDMI and even with that it will be an awesome camera

Unfortunately no, Nick. 422 color resolution is probably always going to look better for underwater than 420 because of blue/green gradation/banding. AVCHD is 420. Basically 4k @ 420 isn't as good looking as 4k @444, which is what the F65/Red Epic can do (albeit by interpolation (I THINK!)).

Plus there is no external capture for 4K so it will be interesting to see how that is done without loosing quality. Does anyone know whether the resolution drops when shooting at the higher frame rates?
