I first met Neville in the mid-70's at the Heron Island Research Station. He already had a great reputation as an underwater photographer and self-taught naturalist and was one of the few "non-academics" welcomed to stay at the H.I.R.S in those days.
Being a very young undergraduate I was somewhat in awe of him initially, but his kindness and friendly manner soon broke the ice...and we chatted regularly once we realized we were both using Rolleiflex cameras (particularly the SLR SL66) underwater. I will always remember him from that and subsequent encounters at dive locations as carrying his big camera to or from a dive always cheerfully whistling a happy tune...
Goodbye Neville...your legacy will live forever.
