Was thinking of getting an Aquatica or Nauticam housing. Mainly for shooting video. I come from an UW video camcorder background.

I already have a T2i and Tokina 11-16mm lens. Now Canon releases the T4i. Articulating screen, great for topside, auto focus for video, but only with the new lenses, not so great. Looks like the T4i does not really give me much over the T2i UW other than it is a new camera.

I feel a little funny spending $3k+ for a housing to fit a 3 generation old camera. On the other hand, why buy a new T4i ?

Any opinions ?

I personally wouldn't want to spend that much money on an older camera. I bought a new housing for a 10d back when the 30d was out. I regretted doing it. The resale takes a huge hit right when you walk out the door. If it were me, I would keep the T2i and buy a used housing.

Those are my thoughts.

Used housing sounds like a good option. Know anyone looking to sell ?

You can check the classifieds here on Wetpixel, and even post a WTB for your camera model. You might have to wait a couple months, but you should be able to find something.
Ebay is also an option

I'd definitely go for a used housing if you do go for the older camera otherwise you may as well go for a xxD or xD for the better lowlight performance and not much difference in overall price.

Cheers, Simon

P.S. isn't the T4i any better in lowlight than the T2i?

Still reading the various reviews, but so far no one is really saying the T4i video footage is anything more than a very slight improvement over the T2i in low light.

Will keep my eye on the classifieds. So far nothing on Ebay, Wetpixel, Scubaboard, Reef photo. Probably should post a WTB.

Does anyone know if Aquatica and Nauticam have committed to a T4i housing ?

Surprising on the lack of improvement on the low light performance but I'm sure you could get a used xD or xxD package cheaper than you'd buy a new t2i housing.
