Northern California Underwater Photography Society (NCUPS) proudly announces the 2012 Monterey Shootout.

The Monterey Shootout is a three-day event held August 3-5, 2012. During the three-day event, scuba divers from all over the United States will converge on Monterey, California and compete for top prizes in one of the most unique underwater photo and video contests in the United States.

On Saturday evening, August 4 the Monterey Shootout will host Imaging Show at the Irvine Auditorium located at the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, CA. The Imaging Show will feature some of the industries top professional underwater photographers as they present some of their most current work. The Imaging Show is open to the non-competing public; tickets are on sale for $5 dollars at www.montereyshootout.com.

On Sunday afternoon, the Monterey Shootout Award Ceremony will be held at the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, CA and is a FREE event, open to the public. Come see all the winning images and videos produced over the weekend. Total prize value will be approximately $20,000.


Monterey Shootout is an underwater photo and video competitive event featuring some of the top underwater photographers and videographers in the industry as our judges. The competition has been in existence for 31 years and is presented by Northern California Underwater Photographic Society. Competitors will register for the event on-line at www.montereyshootout.com or at Backscatter Underwater Video & Photo the day of the event. Competitors will have 32-hours to dive, shoot photo and video, select edit, and enter. Mary Lynn Price will hold a special beginning underwater videography workflow class for the novice video competition entrants on Friday morning at Backscatter Underwater Photo & Video.
The three-day event will also offer seminar courses that are sure to teach participants new underwater photo and video techniques.
