The PCI SSD card arrived today and installed in my MacPro easily.
I formatted it, called it "WIP" and "duplicated" across (from my Raid5 drive) the two events and two FCP X projects that I am working on. Then I shut down the Raid drive and just worked on the WIP drive. Very very zippy. Doesn't even blink when skimming 422 50Mbps Mpeg2 footage.
The PCI SSD drives writes at 512 MB/s and reads at 620 MB/s
My Raid 5 drive writes at 225 MB/s and reads at 237 MB/s
(using Disk Speed Test by Blackmagicdesign.)
Thanks for the suggestion HDV diver.

Peter

They have come down... the SATA 3 versions anyhow. SATA 6 versions will drop in 6-10mths. Vertex 3/4 SSD are definitely worth the money.

Yes...SSD prices are certainly getting better. However, performance varies considerably. The Vertex (which I use) is a good middle-performer. The very best (e.g. Intels) are still quite expensive...but that will no doubt change as competition and popular demand cranks up.
