It's strange that Sony still can't bring themselves to get rid of interlaced...and offer 50p. Even handy-cams have that these days.

Understandable if the 1080/50i is in fact a PsF, but there's no mention of that being the case in the specs.

Gates have announced they are making a housing for it.

Yes, I will just be hiring it on this occasion but the hire company says its due in. I think it is probably just a re-fit on the EX1 housing body, so not too much work for Gates.

Yep looks like another winner... I think ferg has the right idea by hiring though lol ... With the housing it will be Way too exspensive for little old me ... Be good to see how it stands up against a ex1/r with a external recorder. I cannot see it being enough of an improvement for many to upgrade ... Where are you hiring from Ferg and what's the job? Sounds like fun

Depending on what you are already shooting with i suppose as to wether you upgrade or not.
Considering they won't be making a housing for the FS700, this is looking good to me.

Has anyone used the +1, +2 or +4 flip diopters on Gates' EX1 or EX1R housings? They mention the Century +2.6 achromatic diopter separately on the same page. That makes me assume that the flip diopters aren't achromatic. I want to be able to flip an achromatic diopter of the quality of the Century, behind a flat port, so I can get wideish shots as well as close-ups of the same macro subject.

Hey Nick,
I don't think that they do achromatics as a flip, I think that they are too thick. Email John E at Gates, he will tell you straight away

I have raised it with John by email, and I had forgotten that we got into quite a bit of depth with the subject when they were doing the EX1 housing. Sounds like it's probably a no-go if the PMW200 housing is going to be very similar. Would still be tempted to try and fettle a solution for myself if at all physically possible.

Interested to hear of anyone's experiences of shooting u/w macro with the EX1 or EX1R, and what lenses you use. I still don't think I've ever seen any. It's all been wide stuff.
