Folks;

I am upgrading from my Nikon D90 and I am having a tough time choosing between the D700 and the D7000.

The D700 has the full size chip, and more focus points, but the D7000 has more pixels and a lower price tag.

What do you all think is the best choice? Is the D700 worht the extra $s and why?

Why not wait for the D7000 replacement? I have the D90 and that is what I'm looking at. If you want FF, why not look at the D600? Just a thought.

I have both the 700 and the 7000. With the 700 you will not be able to use the Tokina 10-17, but if you are into shipwrecks and ambient light the 700 seams to be slightly better in low light. I believe the 7000 would be better all around for underwater mainly because of the lens choices of the tokina 10-17, the 60mm macro and the 105 mm macro.

All that being said there are some smoking deals here on Wetpixel for used 700 housings from the people upgrading to the 800.

I moved up from a D90 to a D7000 and the main reason was that I could recycle my lenses... All the ones that Paul mentioned above. If budget is a consideration, then this might be a factor.

You will see a marked improvement with either of those cameras over the D90. Personally, I saw an immediate and significant improvement after a day shooting. I chauk it up to the better processor more than the pixels...

I think it is great time to get a used D700 + housing and rest of kit that people sell with it now since upgrading to D800. I could bet you that you can find bodies with minimal number of clicks and minimal exposure to usage overall. And ... camera itself is I believe timeless and is a living legend. And 700 vs 7000 ... simple, how much money, that much value :-)
