Hi David

The A button on the Nauticam is set right at your thumb which i think is great I have this set up to do sensor magnify to 1:1. I love the fact that you can customise almost any button or wheel to do such a wide range of things on these cameras.

Here are a few pics of the housing:

Right side from the front showing the "block" buttons

Left front side with focus/zoom control. The lens release system is being redeisgned.

nautired47.jpg

The housing stand is all aluminum and sturdy. It also allows adding ballast  weights etc

The Block controls from the inside.

The tray slider guides make it easy to insert the camera.

The lens/zoom focus gears system.

nautired44.jpg

Red Monitor attachment on tray.

nautired41.jpg

The zoom/focus gear. Note the lens is in manual... old skool!

These are just pics. I'll refrain from making too many comments out of respect to MJvC.  He is compiling a list of things for Nauticam to peruse.  I will say it's really a compact housing and an interesting first attempt. There are a few things that need major improvement, so for those looking into Epic/Scarlet housings but not immediately, the Nauticam is worth looking into.

Look at the design which has gone into that....that is amazing, could do with a little rinse though Drew, looks a little salty ;)

Does it have plastic cogs? Do they have play?

Hey we use our housingsm It's not ornamental! :)

And being salty is a good test for a housing's durability and resistance to oxidation. ;)  But really we've been so busy that the pics were taken in 10 minutes before we recharged everything and went for dinner.  Being at sea for 10 hrs a day in UV 12 and feels like 44°C  is not easy! :)

The dials are plastic, as are the handles, which makes it lighter for travel.

Maybe it's stupid question but do I need still red touch mon if I'll use only external one (ex. dp4)?

Is it possible to access to all camera menu/function with only side handle w/ ext monitor?

Not a stupid question I had to go and check. As long as you have your menus setup correctly on your red in terms of monitor priority and menus overlays you do not need the red monitor.

Ha! Glad to see my backer asking questions about the housing.  When are you going to buy the camera for me, EJ?

Having the housing is motivating me to want to upgrade to an epic for slowmo stuff. Red upgrade path can't come soon enough.

The Dragon sensor is due to be released soon possibly at NAB so that would add another 6-8K good luck with your decision.

Even if Dragon is released at NAB I'm sure it will take another 12months to actually get the upgrade. 2nd is that they have said that Scarlet cannot be upgraded but there will be a trade in scheme. However when looking at a camera that will likely cost around $28K minus trade in say $7k still $21K to find. Not pocket change.

Yes I might have some explaining to do very soon. I hope they officially launch the Dragon sensor and give us a time line for delivery. If it is the rumored 4K projector my credit card is safe.

I reckon it will be Dragon released, Red Ray shipping and 4k projectors released. Plus another high end camera which will top Epic. Nothing will be concrete and specs will change.

I have been testing the Nauticam Rossa in Lembeh Straits recently. Too busy to do a full review but will later. Probably after the ADEX show.

Here are some teasers.

LemRossa1.jpg

Not the best visibility at the time. The housing is well balanced. The slider weight at the bottom helps to adjust the centre of gravity of the housing. The finger tip controls are a joy to use. In this case I could balance the housing on the legs. I attached two ball arms in front in case I need more stability. Two more at the back and you have a quad-pods that could be made stable in any situation.

With the Nikon 105 VR macro it is more like 147mm macro. S35 sensor has a crop factor of approx 1.4 with FF lenses. I was surprised to see the size of the image on the screen. Great working distance too.

cheers

David

Hi David, I have port, zoom/focus gear chart for NA-ROSSA.

Can you use same focus gear for macro lens?
