I am going from an D90 ikelite set up to a D800,and would like some advice on a different housing. Small hands, 5’2” women, would like to be able to reach the controls.

I made a very non-scientific comparison between Nauticam, Subal & Aquatica Housings for the D800, for my needs.
In that comparison it seemed like Nauticam had the smallest distance. It is not really small anyway.
On the other hand, there was a thread a few weeks ago that complained about the too long distance of the Nauticam.

Sounds like you need to try each. It's a personal decision.
I buy my own photographic kit. Diving equipment manufacturers and diving services suppliers get even-handed treatment from me whether they choose to advertise in the publications I write for or not. All the equipment I get on loan is returned as soon as it is finished with. Did you know you can now get Diver Mag as an iPad/Android app?

pndldy,
you will need to find a housing made for your hands and you can try that only holding it with your own hands,
or even better dive with it.
I belive that ergonomics is not 100% of the buy argument, build quality, customer service,
availability of excellent quality ports for the lenses you have or wanna buy,
availability of viewfinders and vacuum leak check systems, position of arm balls, and, and, and
You probably have to do a trip to
New York, NY (B&H, Leisurepro and Adorama)
Seattle, WA (Optical Ocean Sales
Derry, NH (Backscatter)
Monterey, CA (Backscatter)
Los Angeles, CA (AB Sea Photo)
Ft. Lauderdale, FL (Reef Photo and Video)

I agree that you need to try them out, in order to find out which one fits the best.
Keep in mind that there might be workarounds if the Handles are too far away.
I have seen a woman using a sort of homemade mounted hand strap on the inside of the Handle.
I am not sure if she used some sort of spacer to move the Handle further out.

Jean Bruneau (Viz Art on the forums here) is an Aquatica rep. He is on here often. You might want to try and contact him about this.
Jean - Hope I spelled your name right.
Good luck with your setup. Let us know what you come up with. - Pam
