This is getting very interesting at least for those who shoots video in RAW and also interested in the BlackMagic Design Cinema Camera. Okay it is just 2K raw but read this link.

http://www.eoshd.com...mark-ii-and-iii

On a relatively cheap 5D MII camera body lies hidden gems. Lets hope Magic Lantern will have more good news as to whether this features could be used soon. What would be neat is if Canon decides to implement this in all their higher end DSLRs.......interesting times.

Or more likely they'll shut down Magic Lantern! :) They already threatened to sue them over messing with the 1DX/C

Can't believe you made me hit that link to that site! :)

Btw it's not RAW video but RAW pics. DNG silent pics.

https://bitbucket.or...0b639fc9dd0d345

@ 5MB per pic, that's 120MB/s so the cardbus can't handle it even with buffer. I think the cardbus maxes out around 90MB/s However, if they can modulate the fps to 12 of something, the timelapse will be awesome!

And now that firmware 1.2.1 has finally leaked, I guess Canon is ready for release this month.

I meant to link the M Lantern facebook page  but somehow got mixed up.

https://www.facebook...cation=timeline

Yeah true about raw pics also mirror lock up. So no shutter shake for time-laps. Goody.  It has live view 2K Raw at 2FPS. So maybe 24 FPS be possible somehow? One way for higher frame rate is external recorder if the internal pipeline is not wide enough. Bypasses the card-bus. HDMI for 2K Raw possible? Full frame images? I am just speculating I guess.

Just funny how much advance stuff is hidden or not reveal by Canon until some hacker jumps down the 5D Rabbit Hole again and unlock it.  Even now they waited and waited before the official Firmware. After that more hackers will find out what is actually possible with the 5D.

My read on this is that Black Magic Design really is going to affect Canon sales. If they close Magic Lantern they a going to kill one of the best marketing machine they have.

It's great for timelapse even if they can't get it to 24fps.  Much more flexibility than 21mp RAW files.

Now it's more interesting.

"720p, 400 frames, raw @ 24fps should be no problem with a fresh formatted 1000x card."

The write speed of the UDMA7 cards won't be able to write DNG Raw without compression.  What I'm hoping will happen is 10-14bit HDMI out instead of the 8bit.

WARNING! Drew does not like the linked site. Proceed if you like to know what ML has been up to with the Canon 5D MIII. I am well impressed.

For timelapse and maybe action sequence, yes. For useful video clips, we have to wait for Mark IV.V. :)

It seems like Magic lantern are still making progress with the RAW firmware. They are getting between 720P and 1080P @ 24fps continuously. Here is a link to a video comparison that is NOT EosHD for Drew.
http://nofilmschool....mark-iii-24fps/
The sharpness and dynamic range seem to be amazing.

Brilliant. They are even working on the 6D. Definitely a huge leap in dynamic range and detail compared with original compressed video. However the skew and motion artifact is very noticeable.

Will the 1DX be next. If only.

Warning for Nikon and non-canon users this may upset you a little. Plus Drew don't like where this originates (Andy Reid) ...LOL

Still some rolling shutter but you can't help seeing the sharp detail, colour and contrast.. the quality from this DSLR is unreal at least for my eyes.....this is getting very interesting indeed. No sound yet but for UW sh could be used.  Magic Lantern is still digging into the system which seemingly is bottomless. Continuous RAW even at 48p is possible. It appears the limiting factor is still the media. 60p next possibly.Holy smoke! I'll keep my 5Dm III a wee bit longer.

Cheers

1928x850 24 fps 14-bit RAW. Still experimental.

The only problem for u/w shooters is the time limit: a 1000x 64GB CF card will give you only 14.8 minutes of RAW video...

Hence the external recorder. At the moment nothing is absolutely sure and maybe wait until larger capacity 1000x cards with TBs of storage. Still would be an expensive option.

Lets hope they get a more great results and produce a stable program. I hope Canon do not clamp down on them. The footage for Canon RAW looked every bit as good as BMD. Except for the wobble.

15 mins is still a lot of footage. This is not a new camera one have to purchase. Just a new software update. Hope they could conform ext. recording. I this works I think there will be a surge of ext. recorder housings ;)

cheers

Possibly a good solution if they could enable the HDMI to carry this RAW stream is something like a Convergent Design Odyssey7Q RAW Monitor & Recorder.

The latest build by A1ex and g3gg0 allows recording of continuous 1080/24p in RAW and even auto panning from a crop mode.  It's pretty nice but once the buffer fills, it drops frames.  I'll try getting the camera to overheat by shooting continuously for the entire 128GB 1000x card.

For those who like the news from the source, instead of pundit inaccuracy, go to ML's own thread on this:

http://www.magiclant...hp?topic=5247.0

Anyone wanting to try this will have to compile the code yourself.

As for rolling shutter effect, it's got a rolling shutter! :)

Hee hee  here is a link to a frame grab - sorry Drew (i know just how much you like that site)      Look at it At 100% . Like a digital still. Reminds me a bit of the frame grab from Epic. That is 5K RAW camera so a different league.    Hey this is now on a 5D MIII. Not bad eh?   Not exactly Red or Alexa's league as the person claims but definitely on the same shelf as the BMD cinema camera. The 5D MIII is full frame.   This really is getting very interesting.   D
