Well, Canon held on to the last day of April to release the firmware to give it equal footing to the Nikon D800 camera, the ability to record clean HDMI 8 bit 422 uncompressed video. Here it is:

A couple of  people have emailed saying they don't see a difference in resolution/sharpness.   There isn't any significant amount of change in resolution for static shots because that's how it's subsampled and debayered. What you will find is better is when there's more movement and of course, for underwater peeps, the gradation of blues/greens will be visibly better (though nothing like RAW!).  

Here is a compressed ProRes file comparing HDMI Out to the internal codec and even the BMCC.  It's 2GB so don't try this on your phone!  :)

Well it seems Nauticam are already on it they have already released preliminary renderings of a housing for the Atomos Ninja2
