Many people go to Thailand and enjoy the wonderful and famous Thai seafood around the country. Besides the environmental impact bad fishing practices create, there is another more human side of things... slave labor. Many of the crew are from Cambodia and Myanmar, forced into slavery by threat of death in most cases. This insidious practice has been ignored by the Thai government and much of main stream media.
Thailand is a major dive destination and many people enjoy the fresh seafood on display at the beach restaurants or in the big restaurants in BKK. Perhaps now there is added incentive to forego seafood from your meals when in Thailand. Apparently the US imports quite a bit of fish from Thailand, from the companies that own these fishing boats which have slave labor. It's shocking that it still happens, and that mainstream media still ignores this!
