Hello,

I saw this hawkfish at Tulamben (Bali/Indonesia) and I'm desperately trying to identify it.

Because some species look really similar to each other I'm completely insecure.

The fish was about 7-10 cm in length.

Well, I'm considering:

Cirrhitichthys aprinus or Cirrhitichthys falco but they might be both wrong.

I don't know if it helps, but I have another image whích is actually the reason searching for the correct id.

Even if it is from the front it might help a little bit:

Thanks in advance!

It's Cirrhitichthys aprinus. It closely matches the example from Allen & Erdmann's "Reef Fishes of the East Indies", which was also photographed in Bali. The pale-edged dark brown spot on the gill cover is diagnostic.
