Spirit Air has great prices from DFW to Los Cabos, wanting a quick dive trip. Just have an opportunity for a long weekend, 2 days diving. Never been to Pacific side of Mexico, should we stay in cabo area, or go up to la Paz? Would like to dive with sea lions, and whale sharks if possible. Resort/dive shop recommendations would be awesome. Will 5 mil be enough in early December?

There isn't much for diving in Cabo, you will either want to head to Cabo Pulmo or La Paz. Both offer nice experiences however I have had the best times diving in LaPaz. You can take a very comfortable bus for about $15 from Cabo to LaPaz BTW.

La Paz is great.   I took a 4-day trip there and saw whale sharks, sea lions, and a school of 30 or so hammerheads.   I also recommend looking on VRBO and renting a villa while there; they are nice and very reasonable.  We rented a 3B/2B villa with an infinity pool overlooking the ocean for $200/night (split amongst a few ppl, its less than most resorts).

La Paz is usually better than Cabo Pulmo.  There was a time when El Bajo's seamounts had hundreds of hammerheads, but sadly they were mostly fished out.  Still the Sea of Cortez is still a great place to spot cetaceans and bigger fish.

Thanks everyone. Think we are going to try La Paz just hope we can get there before weather turns and it gets to choppy and cold.

I had a very short trip there a month ago. I did two dives in Cabo Pulmo and five in La Paz (+ snorkelling with shale sharks). From my very small sample size La Paz was better overall. But for me Cabo Pulmo was definitely worth going to just for this school of jacks:

We really enjoyed Cabo Pulmo. Besides the jacks we had regular bullshark sightings. The wale shark experience in La Paz  is amazing  as well,
