I just returned from a trip to Southern California which included diving off Santa Cruz Island from the Spectre out of Ventura. The trip was intended to focus on dive sites around Gull Island, but the weather didn't cooperate. We managed only one dive in the marine reserve due to the wind presenting problems for the crew to anchor securely. They put us on some alternative sites on the leeward side of Santa Cruz Island which presented decent visibility.
Of course, the marine reserve had greater species diversity and larger critters than the sites outside of the reserve. I was setup for macro stuff so I missed a lot of wide angle opportunities. Based upon what I saw, I'll sign-on for another trip to Gull Island with the Spectre at a future date to shoot some wide angle stuff.
Here are a few photos from the trip:
BTW... the Spectre crew runs a good op.
