JANUARY 2014 THEME
Something that has Spots
Description: A critter or fish that has noticeable spots.
Detail - Spot: small round or roundish mark, differing in color or texture from the surface around it.
FEBUARY 2014 THEME
Shoot the Face
Description: A critter’s or fish’s face-to-the-camera shot.
Detail - Face: the front part of the head that extends from the forehead to the chin and includes the mouth and eyes. Limit of 2 to 3 subjects in 1 shot.
MARCH 2014 THEME
Things in the sand
Description: A fish or critter that mainly lives in the sand or muck.
Detail – Examples peacock flounder, sand diver, southern stingray buried in the sand, yellow stingray, lancer dragonet
APRIL 2014 THEME
Large swimmers (> 4 feet) - not people
Description: A fish or critter that is swimming with a length > 4 feet
Detail – Examples grouper, tarpon, sharks, sting ray, manta ray, dolphin, moray eel, and big subjects is what you are shooting for.
MAY 2014 THEME
Description: A fish or critter that has bands or stripes on their body
Detail – A pattern of parallel bands or lines on a contrasting background
JUNE 2014 THEME
Big eyes, Tangs, Triggerfish, Boxfish
Description: You will need your fish id book for this theme
Detail – This theme gives you up to 4 possible choices of fish families. So come on and submit a photograph or two to the contest.
JULY 2014 THEME
Reef scenes without diver
Description: The title pretty well covers your subject for this month
Detail – No snorkelers either.
AUGUST 2014 THEME
Scorpion fish, Gurnards, Lionfish
Description: Another theme that gives you multiple choices of fish
Detail – This theme gives you up to 3 possible choices of fish families. So come on and submit a photograph or two to the contest.
SEPTEMBER 2014 THEME
Pairs or buddies
Description: A pair of the same critter or fish
Detail – Two corresponding critters or fish, similar in form, matched or associated.
OCTOBER 2014 THEME
Anemones and relatives, Hydroids, Jellyfish
Description: For this theme you are going use your creature id book
Detail – Examples moon jellyfish, giant anemones
NOVEMBER 2014 THEME
Single Color focus (Blue,Red,Green,Yellow)
Description: Subject must be a single color or shade of color
Detail – Examples green moray eel, green parrotfish, soap fish, sharks, sponge, coral
DECEMBER 2014 THEME

Detail – First place winners from each month's Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced categories will be entered automatically for judging. The Creative category lets you enter anything you want as long as you do the photography and any special editing.
