I have seen the higher res images now and they look pretty reliable.





There is a strange switch on the back I dunno what it is for (at the bottom on the right hand side of the LCD). Any ideas?

The bigger question is that this camera looks pretty similar in shape and size to the D100 and D70 - do you think it might squeese into existing housings? I don't think that all the rear controls will line up, but others might.

I was kinda expecting a FUJI S3 Body with a intergrated vertical grip....

mmmm. i do hope they have added some connectors this time to attach a vertical grip electronically, the only BONE i have with my D70.

I'm considering purchasing a D100 so i can get a dam vertical grip for when i'm land shooting as they have been reduced to £699 new here in the UK

i really dont need a D2X.. "thats my wife talking"


Are there any D100 users out there that could comment on your camera, Do you love it or hate it ?

D100 was a great camera, but in my opinion the images required too much PP to make the colors pop and the edges sharp. Perhaps a used D1x might be a better choice - sharper out of camera and brighter colors, better AF too. The prices are crashing as we speak!

Looks like the real deal. Sounds like the camera people have bee waiting for. If this camera had been announced in september as some speculated I might have been tempted to switch to nikon.

This could be the first nikon that's specs clearly best it's canon counterpart.(20D in this case)....Or....who thinks canon will yet again beat them to the punch and have a D30 shipping months before this D200 starts shipping.

The viewfinder looks kinda small, I hope I am wrong. Everything else looks great, and the 18-200 VR looks like a nice all around travel lens.

Viewfinder is reputedly .86 and 100% - doesn't sound too bad Luiz. I wouldn't worry until the specs finally come out...

I may be wrong, but this switch appears to pop the compact card slot. There's no other button or switch that appears to do that, and the little diagram next to the switch seems to confirm this function.

It sure looks like a card door latch, but if you look at the shape of the card diagram it looks more like an SD card then a CF card. So perhaps the D200 will follow the D50 and be SD media.
