GoPro Hero 3 Black, Suprise, it's decent

17 January 2013 - 01:27 PM

I sold my beloved Sony FX7 and Gates housing last year. Having dove and shot video in Galapagos and Indonesia, I felt my days of big exotic scuba trips were in the past, so I sold my system.

Just got back from a trip to Belize and was surprised by the GoPro Hero 3 black. It's no FX7, but for $400, this things shoots decent video.

Here is something I quickly threw together. Shot mostly at 2.7k resolution, protune on, camraw WB setting. Cheap drop in gel filter. Very limited correction in editing. Mainly just contrast and brightness adjustments. A few clips shot with 1080k protune off and auto WB. The small size makes shooting steady a challenge. Rendered to 720 for online.

T2i or T4i

25 June 2012 - 11:23 AM

Was thinking of getting an Aquatica or Nauticam housing. Mainly for shooting video. I come from an UW video camcorder background.

I already have a T2i and Tokina 11-16mm lens. Now Canon releases the T4i. Articulating screen, great for topside, auto focus for video, but only with the new lenses, not so great. Looks like the T4i does not really give me much over the T2i UW other than it is a new camera.

I feel a little funny spending $3k+ for a housing to fit a 3 generation old camera. On the other hand, why buy a new T4i ?

Any opinions ?
